20 Freaky Canned Foods

Yes, it really comes like that. Huitlacoche (also called “corn smut”) is considered a delicacy in Mexico, and is composed of diseased corn that’s been infested with a fungus. YUM.

Happy Thanksgiving. These are the 20 weirdest canned foods we could find — we only hope that none of these found their way into your dinner.

Harvey Weinstein: ‘I’d Love to See Katy Perry in Marilyn Musical’

From Norma Jean to Katy? Broadway producer Harvey Weinstein is eyeing the possibility of turning the upcoming cinema drama My Week With Marilyn into a stage musical, and according to E! News, he already has an award-winning pop star in mind for the lead role:

Katy Perry…

Shh — don’t tell Lindsay.

The film stars Michelle Williams as Monroe It’s based on the memoirs of Colin Clark, an assistant of Laurence Olivier, who spent a week of frolicking and no-strings-attached sex with the married screen icon in when she was in the UK filming The Prince And The Show Girl in 1957. Weinstein met Perry in 2010, when he treated his daughters to an evening at the annual Jingle Ball concert at Madison Square Garden. Katy was a featured headliner. A remix of her new song, The One That Got Away, can be heard in a trailer for My Week with Marilyn and has helped generate interest among her fans. Harry thinks she’s ideal for the role.

He told E!:

“If the movie works, I would try to make it a musical and I would go to Katy [Perry] first. I mean Michelle could do it. Michelle is so good she could do it live, if she ever wanted to do it. I don’t know if she would ever want to revisit it, but Katy would blow it out of the universe, and that’s the kind of Broadway show I’d like to make.”

Can Katy do justice to Marilyn? Sound off below!

‘Idol’ Alum Lauren Alaina Flubs National Anthem

While you were scarfing down cranberry sauce and overcooked turkey, American Idol alum Lauren Alaina spent Thanksgiving Day as a Top 10 Trending Topic on Twitter.

If only her stock were that high on the Billboard Hot 100.

The teen sensation, who finished second on the 10th season of the FOX talent show, just joined the likes of Roseanne Barr, Kat DeLuna, Musiq Soulchild, Keri Hilson, and Christina Aguilera in the illustrious “National Anthem Slayers Hall of Fame” after flubbing the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Nerves apparently got the best of Lauren as she took center stage during the big NFL showdown between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers this Turkey Day. After belting out the line “What so proudly we hailed, through the twi…,” the songstress went totally silent for about five seconds — a brain freeze of epic proportions.

Lauren was able to pick the song back up and complete the line: “Whose broad stripes and bright stars…” In an even greater stroke of luck, she was able to escape Ford Field without being booed, egged, or otherwise heckled. (If only the Twitterverse were so kind!) Lauren took ownership for her anthem flub in a posting to the microblogging hub:

“…I have No excuses. I messed up. You know what can ya do. At Least didn’t fall down again.”

Thank goodness for small favors, huh?

Plans to Revive Cancelled ABC Soaps Online Scrapped

Wow, the TV Gods just keep finding new ways to screw with Erica Kane, don’t they?

Plans to revive axed ABC sudsters All My Children (AMC) and One Life to Live (OLTL) online have been scrapped due to “economic challenges,” according to reports out this afternoon.Prospect Park is the media company that licensed both shows with the hope of giving the Good Folks of Llanview and Pine Valle a new lease on life on the Interwebs. Now, the same company says its abandoning the mission to revive the shows because it failed to secure the necessary financial backing. It’s also ovah for the new online network AMC and OLTL had originally been set to anchor a new online network.

Last spring, the long-running soap operas became the latest casualties of mounting production costs and dwindling audiences plaguing much of scripted daytime TV. All My Children disappeared from ABC’s daytime schedule in September. One Life to Live, which wrapped up production earlier this month, will end its run on Jan. 13.

One Life to Live premiered on The Alphabet Network on July 15, 1968. All My Children debuted Jan. 5, 1970. Brian Frons, President of Daytime for Disney ABC/Television Group, called the move “bittersweet.” The cancellations leave General Hospital as ABC’s lone enduring soap opera.

In May, a food-themed talkie, titled The Chew, and a makeover show, The Revolution, were tipped to replace the soaps on the network’s daily daytime schedule. The Chew?!
